eBirr Receipt Check
Free, no signup. Checked against eBirr's own receipt record.
eBirr is a mobile money platform connecting 5 Ethiopian financial institutions: Nib International Bank, Wegagen Bank, Ahadu Bank, KAAFI Microfinance, and Cooperative Bank of Oromia (Siinqee). Receipts are available via a shared HTML endpoint at receipt.ebirr.com. Users provide either a full receipt URL or a 'tenant/token' string (e.g., nib/abc123). cheki auto-detects the tenant and maps it to the correct partner bank.
Required information
- Receipt link or tenant/token (required), e.g.
https://receipt.ebirr.com/nib/XXXXXXXXXXXX
Reference number format
Receipt URL (receipt.ebirr.com/{tenant}/{token}) or tenant/token string (e.g., nib/abc123, wegagen/xyz, ahadu/def, kaafimf/ghi)
Example: nib/abc123def
How to verify eBirr with cheki
- Get the receipt URL or tenant/token from the eBirr app receipt sharing feature
- Paste the full URL (https://receipt.ebirr.com/nib/abc123) or just the tenant/token (nib/abc123) into cheki
- cheki fetches the receipt from receipt.ebirr.com and parses the HTML for transaction details
- The partner bank is auto-detected from the tenant code in the URL
How eBirr receipt verification works
The eBirr receipt endpoint is: https://receipt.ebirr.com/{tenant}/{token}
Placeholders, error shapes and gotchas are in the eBirr endpoint reference.
This is a public URL that returns a HTML page containing the official transaction data. No authentication is required.
Who uses eBirr verification
- Merchants verifying eBirr payments from Nib, Wegagen, Ahadu, or KAAFI customers
- Businesses reconciling eBirr wallet transfers
- Apps integrating eBirr payment verification
- Finance teams auditing eBirr transactions across multiple partner banks
Verifying eBirr via API
cheki provides a free REST API for eBirr verification:
POST https://cheki.et/api/verify
Request body: { "bank": "ebirr", "reference": "https://receipt.ebirr.com/nib/XXXXXXXXXXXX" }
See the API documentation for full details.
Checking eBirr payment status
eBirr publishes transaction data at https://receipt.ebirr.com/{tenant}/{token}. When someone sends you a payment via eBirr, a receipt is generated at this URL. cheki fetches the receipt, parses it, and tells you whether the payment is real, who sent it, and for how much. This takes 2 to 10 seconds.
What information you need
To check a eBirr payment, ask the sender for the receipt link or tenant/token from their receipt. That's all you need, no account number required.
- Receipt link or tenant/token (e.g. nib/abc123def)
Common eBirr payment verification scenarios
